A quote I found years ago (in June of '97, to be exact).
"The goal of the Christian is not to please himself but to please his Lord. He does not wish to settle for that which is least harmful, but to reach for that which is highest and best. He is not seeking to avoid punishment but to bring joy to his Heavenly Father. He is not testing himself to see how much darkness he can stand, but striving to see how near he can get to the light.
"His is not a negative obedience demanded of him, but a positive eagerness to please God in every possible way."
Robertson McQuilken, An Introduction to Biblical Ethics, pg. 499
(I believe this is from the first edition of the book.)

Hi! Nice to see you again, and you know..that is a good quote!
Hope you're having a blessed Easter season.
Hey, Woodrow. Nice to see you back.
Today we were telling the kids in our Confirmation class about perfect and imperfect contrition. Love really is the best motive, isn't it!
Oh, I love it! I want to bring my own (now defunct) blog back, just so I can post this quote and think on it from time to time.
Everyone,
Thank you for your comments. It's a nice ego-boost to know I'm still being followed!
I tell people that I have a defunct blog, but I leave it up, not because I have many good things to say on it, but because I sometimes put really good stuff by other people on it.
